-The Sicily through Stamps -
This page was made to describe Sicily through stamps, its artistic cities, its richness, the presence of its personages in history, literature, science, sport and production, in a few words:  " Sicily by the stamps ".
Here 73 stamps are " illustrated " to describe and celebrate some of the more important moments of the Sicilian history. These " small pictures " enclose, moreover, some of the artistic and environmental beauties of the Region.
With the Reign of the Two Sicilie the stamps arrived 1º January 1858 in the dominions "within the lighthouse" (Campania, Abruzzi, Puglie, Calabria and Basilicata) and in 1859, into dominions "outside the lighthouse" in Sicily.
------- Curiosity -------
The post employees of King Ferdinand II took every precaution.  Like the choice of the colors for the emissions,
so that in no franking the hated Italian tricolour could be composed.
And one other attention was taken with the preparation of the postmark for the cancellation of the stamps:  a special one called "Horse pawo" due to its shape.
These were created in order not to ruin the face of the monarch but, really, the post employees were not always so careful when affixing the postmarks.
